Hayling United Ladies Football Club (Women's)

Kick Off : 14:59 Meeting Time :

Wow, what a difference.
In all honesty, the thought of playing the league leaders, still unbeaten this season, away from home, filled me with dread, but no, it most certainly shouldn't have as this was arguably the best United performance of the season. That may seem a little strange considering the 3-0 scoreline but New Forest ladies have been whacking teams out of sight this season are on their way to the first division, no doubt. They are a good footballing side, but they will have had much easier afternoons this season and probably a few easier ones next season too !
From the very off United seemed stronger, more determined to 'not let them pass' and even though New Forest had slightly more possession they were doing nothing with it and indeed Hayling were looking more and more dangerous on the break. New Forest did eventually take the lead after more than half an hour with a goal mouth scramble that saw the ball bundled over the line after some stout defending had kept it out.
The half ended and 1-0 flattered the league leaders.
The half time chat was simple, 'keep it up ladies'
The second half was much more of the same and the scoreline again flattered New Forest, thanks to a freaky rebound and a breakaway goal, both against the run of play. United defended like lions, Kate mad some quality finger tip stops, Carla did well to keep their pacy left winger quite, Hazel was strong and pleasingly verbal and Hayley was her usual tenacious self, getting better every week our left back.
The midfield both protected the back line and supported the lone striker with fantastic energy, Sam mopped up in the middle and both Chrissy and Andy provided good outlets for Gemmas passing prowess.
Our lone striker, Angie, linked up well with the ever willing and hard working Chrissy and some decent passages of play were a welcome site when we were attacking.
The main tactical difference this week was to put Jazz at the back, well done Phil, as she and Eggy dovetailed superbly. Both were outstanding this week with both typified the Hayling spirit that runs strong through this team. we looked like a team today and not only because we all battled together, but also because we all talked to each other in a positive manner and all decided that we wanted it again. Jo came on looking like a world war 1 soldier with both her legs bandaged and again her tackling was well timed and strong.
POM this week was Jazz who looked totally at home at the back, her tackling was fantastic and she will, im sure, go on to be a massive player for United in this position, well done Jazz.
It was a pleasure to be associated with Hayling Ladies again this week girls and I know for a fact the management team are all very proud of you all. Please do not make this a one off because i'm sure you will agree that this sunday was a lot more fun than the last few!!
