Third win on the bounce, yep you read it right, Third win on the bounce, but how we make our supporters suffer.
One nil up fairly early on with Angie striking from just inside the box, but we failed to convert several decent chances to put this game beyond Widbrook and that one goal lead always looked a little fragile. In the second half United were guilty of letting the opposition dictate the quality of football that was being played and it was almost inevitable when they equalized from from their first shot on target mid way through the half. This did spark a revival from Hayling but Widbrook held out until the end of the 90 minutes and extra time was required to decide a game that really should never had needed it.
Widbrooks support had been swelled by the first team but Hayling reacted well and Angie saw a hopeful effort sail passed their keeper to put United 2-1 up. Hal time in wextra time and we wondered if the girls could this time hang on to their lead? No problem, Widbrook seemed to have run out of steam and first Chrissie, then Angie and finally Gemma from the penalty spot, put a more realistic look to the final score. 5-1 and United progress to the next round of the cup and keep the winning run going.
Angie grabbed a good hatrick and would surely have been pom had it not been for an outstanding performance from Eggy at the back, sweeping up almost every attack Widbrook mustered.
All eleven girls deserve credit today, they all gave everything knowing that we were down to bare bones and sub-less. A long shift put in from each.
Well done girls, keep it up.
Away to Salisbury next week and as long as we can go with 13-14 players we should not be too worried about anyone at the moment.
